About the Artist

I am a biologist by trade and an artist by spirit. I love to make artwork at the intersection between the two. Art has always been a compulsion for me, but I do not remember a time where I was not surrounded by it. I was raised in Northern Colorado by artists who had me painting plein air by the time I was 6. I am partially self-taught, as my love of and ability to create art is because I stood on the shoulders of the community around me. That being said, I did teach myself to oil paint using 30-year-old paints and linseed oil from the hardware store.

I hold a BS in Zoology and Conservation Biology from Colorado State University and have 3 years of professional Fine Art training. I work primarily in oils, although I do not stick to a single medium. Currently, I am really enjoying painting landscapes. When I am not in the studio I manage a microbiology lab, pick up cool little things off the ground, and try to keep my houseplants alive.

My inspiration is the natural world. I work to study and understand it, and exist to try and capture it. I have traveled all over; reveling in new ecosystems, and gathering inspiration for artwork. I am obsessed with the ephemeral, and seek to solidify it in my work. I have always had a special connection to Florida and it’s severely underappreciated ecology. It is home to some of the most precious, rare, and diverse ecosystems on the Earth- all of them quickly deteriorating. I have a deep respect and admiration of The Highwaymen, A.E. Backus, and the artists of the Hudson River School.

I currently live in Colorado with my husband and our neurotic rescue dog. When I am not in the studio I manage a microbiology lab, pick up cool little things off the ground, and try to keep my houseplants alive.
