seagrape leaf paintings

about

These pieces are named for the surface in which they are painted upon; pressed and gesso-primed leaves from the seagrape tree, Coccoloba uvifera. The trees produce green, grape-like fruit and large, leathery leaves. The leaves are used for everything from dye to postcards to these paintings. The leaves are sustainably and legally harvested and brought back to my studio in Colorado where they are pressed, prepped, and then used as a canvas for original oil paintings. The subject of the paintings serves to honor their origin. I have recently been experimenting with seashells in the same way.

Seagrape paintings are available at Island Visions Gallery and Timeless Gallery in Downtown Fort Myers, FL, or by commission.
